Review : Pour Cafe @ Ampang
Earlier this year we attended the Great British Circus at Aeon Big in Ampang and stumbled upon this cafe. We made plans to return to try it but forgotten about it until recently when we were deciding on a brunch place. Definitely located off the beaten track, we got lost once before finally locating it (even while using Waze!) The interior is very minimalistic with a homey feel, suitable for a weekend brunch date with menu options right up my alley.
What's
this called : Breadcrumbed Fish
Chubsquared
thoughts : Fish is usually my first choice over other meats but I unfortunately did not like this one because it was just way too dry. I was really surprised to see no sauces were offered with this which made us request for chili sauce. What made it worse was the mashed sweet potato was also dry and hard making it equally difficult to consume. I would not order this again.
What's in
it : Breaded fish with mashed sweet potato and salad.
What's
this called : Soft Shell Crab Muffin
Chubsquared
thoughts : Thank goodness this dish totally erased all the errors of the previous dish and redeemed the cafe's reputation in our minds! This was amazing - lightly toasted muffin which was soft and moist, sunny side up done perfectly with a runny yolk, and crispy soft shell crab which was not over-fried and had the right amount of seasoning. Buttermilk sauce was also spot on. I would say this is a brilliant marriage of flavors and I would not hesitate to order this again.
What's in
it : English muffin topped with sunny side up and with soft-shell crab drizzled with butter milk sauce and tomato salsa on the side.
Our drinks. L : Melon Grape Iced Tea, R : Lychee Rose Iced Tea |
Overall
Chubsquared-tified : 2/3 Food was good and acceptable. I would return to try other items since the soft shell crab muffin and drinks were delicious.
