Review : Le Food @ SS18 Subang

Image
Anybody who knows me well will know I am generally not a fan of vegetarian cuisine because in my experience with them they tend to be tasteless, or deep fried unhealthily with lots of batter, or consisting of fake ingredients - none of which I associate to be healthy which really defeats the purpose of going vegan.  However, my lunch companion was vegan yesterday so we headed to SS18 Organic Vegetarian Fresh Mart and Restaurant to eat. Upon parking we saw Le Food few shops down and being curious souls checked it out and lo and behold it was an all vegetarian restaurant with an equally interesting menu to boot!  Le Food SS18 is a new baby on the block just shy of 2 weeks into its opening with a promise to serve tasty healthy food without the 3 evils - MSG, preservatives, artificial colorings & flavors. They do have another branch at Bandar Bukit Tinggi Klang but that location is definitely out of our reach so this SS18 branch is a real blessing for us! Being newly opene

Review : 798 Rice Bucket @ Sunway Pyramid

Image
One of those places that has been around for a while but we never tried until recently was 798 Rice Bucket . As the name implies, the majority of their dishes are served in a bucket which retains its heat. This is a huge restaurant with the other half sectioned for hotpot. They also own the lot opposite which is solely for hotpot consumption. As hotpot does not appeal to me generally, we went to the Rice Bucket side. With a huge menu offering many dishes that appeals to me, I foresee myself returning several times until I have tried everything I fancy. What's this called : Fried Mantao with Cheese What's in it : Literally fried mantao with cheese slice wedged in the middle and sweet and sour sauce on the side Chubsquared thoughts : You just don't say no to a fried mantao. Especially when it has cheese and that sauce. The sauce is like the sweet and sour sauce usually served with crabs at Chinese seafood restaurants for you to dip the crab and mantao in. Y

Review : Jibril @ SS15 Subang Jaya

Image
Ah another one of those secret hideaway places - no signages, no name board. Which can NEVER be found unless you read about how to get in there. Jibril is a muslim friendly halal speakeasy bar. While it certainly looks like they serve alcohol behind that bar with all those liquor and cocktail glasses, be rest assured everything is alcohol-free here and just made to look like they contain alcohol, isn't that cool?     What's this called : Salted Egg Butter Chicken What's in it : Fried chicken thigh in salted egg butter sauce with rice. Chubsquared thoughts : I absolutely LOVE butter anything and will go anywhere for butter dishes. This is one butter dish I will be definitely be returning for, because look at that bowl people - it is a bowl of butter sauce!!! Apart from the chicken being already drenched in butter sauce, there is additionally an extra bowl of it for those who just can't get enough of that creamy butter sauce. That sauce was one of the b

Review : Ra-Ft Cafe @ Binjai 8 Premium Soho

Image
Garnering pretty good reviews on TripAdvisor with a 4.5/5 rating, this Italian cafe was on our to-visit list so one fine Sunday morning, we decided to have brunch here. They have 2 locations : 1 at Arcoris Plaza Mont Kiara and the other at Binjai 8 in the city centre. We chose to go to Binjai 8 Premium Soho. Parking was easy (we parked right outside the cafe) and upon entering the cafe, we found it bright and spacious.  The menu What's this called : Chicken Burger What's in it : Grilled chicken breast in home-made bun with onions, lettuce, tomato, and pickles with fries and apple coleslaw on the side. Chubsquared thoughts : On first glance that burger looked tiny and we thought it would be insufficient to fill us up. Boy were we so wrong that we were even unable to finish those fries! The bun was lovely - soft and buttery while the chicken was slightly tough. Overall it was just a normal healthy burger.  What's this called : Fish and Chips

Review : Mak's Chee @ MidValley Megamall

Image
Two years ago Kuala Lumpur welcomed Mak's Chee , a restaurant which was made famous by owner Master Mak Woon Chee selling fresh prawn wonton noodles. Originally hailing from Guangzhou followed by a move to Hong Kong, Mak's Chee dates back all the way to the 1920s. You know the noodles are something when its clientele include a long list of famous celebrities, politicians, food critics, and iconic figures across Hong Kong and China. The famed family recipe has been passed down through generations and is now in its third generation, run by Master Mak's grandson-in-law Johnny Yu who decided to expand outside Hong Kong to Malaysia. For some reason we never knew about it until they opened their third branch at MidValley (first was at One Utama and second at Pavilion Elite) so here we are! What's this called : Deep Fried Wonton What's in it : Whole big prawn fried in wonton skin with sweet chili sauce on the side. Chubsquared thoughts : This was defin
