Review : 798 Rice Bucket @ Sunway Pyramid
One of those places that has been around for a while but we never tried until recently was 798 Rice Bucket. As the name implies, the majority of their dishes are served in a bucket which retains its heat. This is a huge restaurant with the other half sectioned for hotpot. They also own the lot opposite which is solely for hotpot consumption. As hotpot does not appeal to me generally, we went to the Rice Bucket side. With a huge menu offering many dishes that appeals to me, I foresee myself returning several times until I have tried everything I fancy.
What's
this called : Fried Mantao with Cheese
What's in
it : Literally fried mantao with cheese slice wedged in the middle and sweet and sour sauce on the side
Chubsquared
thoughts : You just don't say no to a fried mantao. Especially when it has cheese and that sauce. The sauce is like the sweet and sour sauce usually served with crabs at Chinese seafood restaurants for you to dip the crab and mantao in. Yup it is exactly that addictive sauce guys, and you can now get it here just to dip your mantao in without piling on the bad cholesterol from the added crabs.
What's
this called : Creamy Butter Fish Fillet Rice
What's in
it : Fried fish fillet soaked in butter sauce with rice topped with sunny side up egg and corn on the side.
Chubsquared
thoughts : Like I mentioned in my Jibril post, I'm for anything butter, especially if there is a fish option. And thank the lord, this place has THREE butter fish options (1. Creamy Butter Fish, 2. XO Butter Fish, 3. Kam Heong Butter Fish). I went with Creamy Butter Fish since I wanted to compare its creaminess with others I've tried. It wasn't the best, but it was good. However, the fish was over-fried. It was tough and obviously not the freshest. I liked the size of this dish, it was just right for me without being too little or too much. It would have been nicer if the fish was cooked better and if more sauce was provided as the second piece ended up being too dry.
What's
this called : Pumpkin Sauce Chicken Rice
What's in
it : Fried chicken pieces drenched in pumpkin sauce with rice and coleslaw on the side.
Chubsquared
thoughts : I honestly did not taste much pumpkin but in all fairness, pumpkins do not have much taste. I did taste salted egg though and it was nice. However, as per the fish fillet above, this chicken was also over-fried.
What's
this called : Crispy Shrimp Mayo Paste Noodle
What's in
it : Egg noodle with fried shrimps in mayonnaise
Chubsquared
thoughts : First thing I noted was that the noodles, even though very tasty, were too salty. The fried shrimps tasted nice but had more dough than actual shrimp meat. It also tasted more like soft shell crab than shrimps (which is a good thing, I love soft shell crab). However I would not order this again.
What's
this called : Chicken Chop Cheese Baked Rice
What's in
it : Grilled chicken fillet with mushroom sauce over fried rice topped with melting cheddar cheese.
Chubsquared
thoughts : Ah cheese baked rice. We will definitely order this to try at every place that offers it. Because who can resist that cheese (look at second pic above to see what I mean)! You're given 3 sauce options for this : white cream, mushroom, and tomato. We chose mushroom but did not see or taste any mushroom sauce, making the chicken taste dry. Unfortunately this dish was just so-so and we honestly think Wong Kok does it better.
Overall
Chubsquared-tified : 2/3 Food was
good and acceptable. Will likely return to try something else. The overall portion and price was good
and the set lunches are of very good value (starting from RM13.90 to RM18.90
depending on what main you pick, you get: a drink, a bowl of soup, the main
dish, and dessert of the day).
