Review : Jibril @ SS15 Subang Jaya

Ah another one of those secret hideaway places - no signages, no name board. Which can NEVER be found unless you read about how to get in there. Jibril is a muslim friendly halal speakeasy bar. While it certainly looks like they serve alcohol behind that bar with all those liquor and cocktail glasses, be rest assured everything is alcohol-free here and just made to look like they contain alcohol, isn't that cool?

What's this called : Salted Egg Butter Chicken

What's in it : Fried chicken thigh in salted egg butter sauce with rice.

Chubsquared thoughts : I absolutely LOVE butter anything and will go anywhere for butter dishes. This is one butter dish I will be definitely be returning for, because look at that bowl people - it is a bowl of butter sauce!!! Apart from the chicken being already drenched in butter sauce, there is additionally an extra bowl of it for those who just can't get enough of that creamy butter sauce. That sauce was one of the best I've tasted so far: it was very creamy and buttery and just heaven-sent. However, as great as that sauce was, I can't say the same about the chicken. There were more fatty parts and dough than actual meat which is not my cup of tea. I like to taste more meat and zero fats and this did not fulfill that unfortunately.

What's this called : Butter Chicken Chop Pasta

What's in it : Fried chicken chop over spaghetti drenched in butter sauce

Chubsquared thoughts : This was pretty much the same as the above dish, with just the rice swapped for pasta. Again, the sauce was spot on while the spaghetti was nicely cooked al-dente. I have the same complaints about this dish as per the one above : the chicken which was too fat and had too much dough.

L : Potter Butter Beer, R : Hot Lemon Tea

These were our drinks. I usually like to be adventurous and try something new and that's what I did with my drink - the Potter Butter Beer. Don't be fooled, this ain't no mug of beer. It is basically non-alcoholic beer (tastes like root beer) topped with butter cream and a big round ice cube. It tasted refreshingly good and is definitely something I would order again. Nothing to talk about for the hot lemon tea, it was just normal and something you can get everywhere else.

Now let's get down to the nitty gritty of this hidden location. Without having read a blog beforehand, we would never have discovered this hidden gem. First time we tried to find this place, we could not because we did not read any blog beforehand and ended up going home thinking it had shut down for good. So now let me add myself to the list of bloggers who will tell you how to get here. When you get to SS15, head straight for Sangkaya (the coconut ice cream store) and go inside. The wall directly behind the ice cream freezer is of wooden bricks. Look VERY closely and you will see a door in the wall (see picture below). Push that door and voila! You'll have arrived at a whole new different world from the one outside.

Overall Chubsquared-tified : 2/3 Food was good and acceptable. Will likely return to try something else. Or rather, I would come back just for that sauce and potter beer!
