Goobne @ Mytown

Image
We were shopping at Mytown and deciding on a dinner place when we chanced upon this - another Korean fried chicken restaurant. There was hardly any traffic unlike Kyochon but we decided to give it a try nevertheless.  Goobne was established in Korea in 2005 to promote healthy oven-roasted chicken instead of deep fried in oil which is what most other Korean chicken places do. This is their only outlet in Malaysia so far.  Having previously tried many other Korean fried chicken restaurants, we were intrigued by this as Goobne had other flavors and items on the menu native to them. We decided to try two of their signature chicken. What's this called : Goobne Soy Garlic Chicken Chubsquared thoughts : I actually could not believe that was oven-roasted. Look at that color - a beautifully perfect light brown. Roasted until perfection, it tasted as good as it looks. It was delightfully crispy on the outside while tender on the inside. The amount of sauce drizzled

Review : Choon Guan Coffee Shop @ Port Klang

Image
I've never ventured to Klang before because : 1) I always thought it was super far (assumption definitely affirmed. It took me 1 and half hours to reach there), and 2) I am not a fan of bak kut teh. But I recently had the opportunity to do some food hunting when I had to attend a meeting in the area. It took me a while to find this place when I was Googling "what to eat in Klang" as 90% of the results were either Bak Kut Teh or seafood or some other unappealing option. Out of all the results, only this one appealed to us and off we went! Do take take note this location is very very far away from KL city centre and was almost like driving to a different country. We joked we would need our passports the next time we return.  The coffee shop is just oozing with tradition and was clean, bright, and airy. Even though it was a very hot day but there were ample fans around with a proper sturdy metal roof above which meant one wouldn't feel the need to eat quickl

Review : Hoshino Coffee @ Mid Valley

Image
Hailing all the way from Japan with outlets in Singapore, South Korea, China and now Malaysia, Hoshino Coffee as its name implies specialises in coffee- hand drip coffee particularly. While that does not appeal to a non-coffee person like me, what drew me to this place was its food. The location of this restaurant is actually in the middle of Gardens and Mid Valley where Tim Ho Wan previously was before it closed down (no surprise there with such a limited menu and crappy taste). The coffee machine! This place is not suitable for big groups as you can see from the picture above. Seating is "cubicle style" which accommodates 2 people only. They do have bigger tables but those are very limited in quantity.  What's this called : Hoshino Pot-Baked Curry Rice with Chicken What's in it : Similar to those char-chan-teng cheese baked rice but with added Japanese curry, broccoli, chicken, onsen egg, and sausages.  Chubsquared thoughts : I shal
