Review : Whup Whup @ SS13 Subang Jaya
Hidden deep
within Subang Jaya's industrial area where no one expects to find anything
other than factories lies Whup Whup, an industrial yarn factory turned
casual french eatery. The journey to here might seem dodgy and you will
probably believe Waze is taking you in the wrong direction but it isn't.
Parking is free but is limited. While you can also park outside for free, it can
be limited during working hours due to the neighboring factories and
offices.
As you can
see from the pictures, the owners kept most of the factory aspects and even
equipment within the compound which gave the restaurant a lovely vintage
nostalgic look and feel. Before you enter and even upon entering it feels more
like entering a cool factory rather than a restaurant until you see the chefs
and waiters.
Menu
selection was limited - 1 A4 page for appetizers/mains and another A4 page for
desserts and beverages. However, it was obvious alot of thought and creativity
went into building the contents as they sounded special and not the usual
run-of-mill food.
What's
this called : Chicken Mojo W Rosmary's Taters + Pan Fried Oranges
What's in it : Grilled chicken topped with tomato & onion concasse with mash potato on the side.
Chubsquared thoughts : This dish was supposed to be served with roast potato cubes but it was finished hence replaced with mashed potato (I'm not complaining, I prefer mash over potato cubes). The chicken was nicely cooked - juicy and tender. The sauce went well with it too and made the dish more appetizing. However, that side dish which I am unsure of its contents (pictured in a small ceramic bowl) tasted awful and after a taste of it I put it aside to never touch again. The menu stated "Pan Fried Oranges", note the plural in Orange, but I only got ONE orange slice. However, that orange slice tasted lovely - sweet with a slight fried taste and extremely appetizing after such a full meal.
What's
this called : Salmon Hayek
What's in it : Salmon belly fillet on a bed of spaghetti with tomato & onion concasse.
Chubsquared thoughts : My picture does not do justice to that salmon fillet (I'm sorry, Salmon). That salmon was seared to perfection; it melted in the mouth and tasted divine! The spaghetti was al-dente, nothing special about it although it did go well with the concasse whose omission would have made the pasta taste try and boring. Note that concasse is exactly the same as the one in the chicken dish above. The star of this dish is definitely that salmon!
Overall
Chubsquared-tified : 2/3 Food was good and acceptable. Will likely return to try something else.
