Review : Bla Bla Bla @ Kuching

bla bla bla kuching

Had a work trip to Kuching earlier this year and made it a priority to try as many popular restaurants as possible. This particular restaurant was recommended by the hotel we stayed at and is also in TripAdvisor's Top 10 must go restaurants. I would just like to ruin the rest of this review by saying upfront I LOVE this restaurant and it definitely made it to my to-return list.

bla bla bla kuching

The ambience of this place is Balinese style : very relaxing and inviting with dimmed lighting. The tables are set apart at a good distance which makes talking and hearing across the table easy. Definitely a place to chill out at to enjoy good food and good company.

bla bla bla kuching soft shell crab

What's this called : Deep Fried Soft Shell Crab

What's in it : Soft shell crab with chicken floss drizzled with lots of buttered mayo.

Chubsquared thoughts : Soooo goooood. The soft shell crab is perfectly battered and fried and tasted delicious with the pairing of floss and buttered mayo.

bla bla bla kuching midin with garlic

What's this called : Fried Midin

What's in it : Midin stir-fried with garlic.

Chubsquared thoughts : We ordered this because it is a vegetable native to Sarawak and it naturally made sense to try the local food. The taste of this took some getting used to and is probably something I would not order again. It is slightly sticky which I personally do not prefer in my food. But it was cooked well and was very tasty which made eating it a breeze for my companion who did not mind the unique taste.

bla bla bla kuching chef's noodles

What's this called : Chef's Noodles

What's in it : Crispy yee-mee noodles in seafood broth

Chubsquared thoughts : We opted for noodles instead of rice because we wanted to try as much of the restaurant's food as possible. This was delicious - the broth was tasty and not too salty, blending well with the crispy noodles. It also had a generous amount of seafood which were steamed beautifully.

bla bla bla kuching fried and crispy manichai

What's this called : Manichai a.k.a Cangkok Manis a.k.a Sweet Leaves

What's in it : Sugar fried manichai topped with chicken floss.

Chubsquared thoughts : So I left the best for last. Another vegetable native to Sarawak, this is hands down the BEST vegetable I have ever tasted and we just could not stop eating this. It was super crispy and tasty and was the highlight of our meal; so much so we ate it with all the other dishes because it was too addictive. Fried to a crisp with a light dusting of sugar, you will definitely regret not ordering this. We even packed the remaining and ate it as a supper snack in the hotel later that night (yes it was still crispy and delicious after several hours).

Overall Chubsquared-tified : 3/3 Food was absolutely fantastic!! Definitely returning and recommending to everyone! The dishes come in one size only which are very generous and meant for sharing. Even on empty hungry stomachs, the above dishes were more than sufficient for 3 pax.
