Review : ZINC @ Kuching
Due to our limited time in Kuching, we could not finish eating all the food we originally planned to. But time was made for this place because it was highly raved and was #2 on TripAdvisor (#1 did not appeal to us). Being unsure of our schedule, no reservations were made which meant we could not get a table inside and was left with the only option of an outdoor table. Fortunately it was a breezy shaded area and all was good.
What's
this called : Escargots
Chubsquared
thoughts : Being fans of escargots and knowing the reputation of this restaurant, we had high hopes for this dish. It unfortunately did not meet our expectations and was average compared to the one at Yeast in KL. While the snail was cooked fine, the sauce did not taste good and negatively impacted the dish as a whole.
What's this called : Jamon Croquetas
Chubsquared
thoughts : I'm happy to say this dish restored our faith in this restaurant. It was perfectly fried - crispy on the outside with soft creamy mash blended with Iberico pork inside. What is noteworthy of this dish is the addition of Iberico ham which made this croquette extremely tasty.
What's in
it : Half dozen snails in butter, parsley, and garlic.
What's this called : Jamon Croquetas
What's in
it : 4 fried croquettes filled with diced cured Spanish ham.
What's
this called : Flammkuchen
Chubsquared
thoughts : It is rare and difficult to find pork pizzas in KL, especially a good tasting one. This is a thin crust pizza with generous toppings - every bite was bursting with pork goodness. While the appearance of this pizza does not look too appetizing, it did taste lovely and we had no trouble finishing it without any difficulty.
What's in
it : German / Alsatian style pizza with pork bacon, sour cream, and onions.
What's
this called : Crepe Suzette
Chubsquared
thoughts : We make it a point to end every Western meal with a dessert. I found this Crepe Suzette to be better than the one at The Brasserie at St Regis KL. The crepe was beautifully done and the sauce had the perfect balance of sweet and sour. It was a good ending to a very fulfilling dinner!
What's in
it : Crepe with grand marnier orange sauce topped with charred orange slice.
Our drinks. L : ZINC Passion Cocktail, R : Abstinence on the Beach Mocktail |
Overall Chubsquared-tified : 2/3 Food was good and acceptable. I wouldn't hesitate to return here to try other options if I'm back in Kuching and in the mood for Western fare.
