Review : Kaiju @ APW Bangsar
Went for RIUH (a curated creative bazaar) recently at APW and discovered this Thai/Japanese fusion restaurant. It is a small space so not too suitable for big crowds. What drew us in was the interesting menu and the crowd waiting for a space which is usually a sign of good food. Given the compact space though, this is not the place to have lengthy or intimate discussions as one can literally eavesdrop on every conversation happening throughout the restaurant.
We went on a weekend during lunch. Even with a full house, we were sat down fairly quickly, given a menu promptly, and the food was also served with a very short waiting time (15 minutes tops).
Our drinks. L : Yuzu, R : Lychee Pop |
Not sure why the Yuzu drink is red when it is usually yellow or orange but it did have a nice sour Yuzu taste. The Lychee Pop on the other hand just tasted like Sprite with 2 Lychees at the bottom.
What's this called : Kaiju Nachos

thoughts : So we had to google what "namtuk" sauce was which came up with ZERO results. Moving on to asking the waitress who just told us it is a sweet sauce. The chicken was tender and juicy with a very delicious sauce drizzled on top which tasted like a cheesy aioli. Would have been much better if there was more drizzle of sauce or as a separate side for dipping. The rice given was Japanese rice and went well with the chicken. Definitely no small portion and can be shared between 2 people which we did.
What's this called : Kaiju Nachos
What's in
it : Nachos with spice minced lamb served with garlic sauce and tobiko on the side.

thoughts : I did not see any tobiko present in this dish although the menu specified so. For those who don't know, tobiko is flying fish roe, those mini orange ball like things you see in sushi usually. Regardless, the lamb was delicious with the right amount of flavor. I am always afraid to order lamb because they would have a weird gamey taste but this one did not have that at all. Also, that garlic sauce was so good I could not stop eating those nachos!
What's
this called : KFC! (Not to be confused with the real Kentucky Fried Chicken 😂)
What's in
it : Kaiju style Thai Chinese fried chicken with vege and namtuk sauce.
What's
this called : Cornflake Ice Cream
Chubsquared
thoughts : This was SO GOOD I would return here just for this little pot of ice cream. It is essentially creamy goodness in a pot. It was VERY creamy, so those who do not like this kind of texture in their ice-creams, you have been warned. I tend to like my ice cream to have fillings like cookies or cornflakes to have some crunch in them and this particular one fulfilled this expectation without a doubt : every single spoonful had generous servings of cornflakes.
What's in
it : Ice cream with cornflakes.
